We have also had to use some Moly-Dee / Threading oil concoction on a recent job where were were using a sprial point tap in low carbon plate (Heat Exchanger material - similar to A36 in the way if behaves to cutting tools) to keep the threads from tearing, coolant just wouldn't cut it, pun intended. For your tool steels I'd go with the Moly Dee, CR and aluminum, a medium to high coolant concentration should be fine. No responsibility from Kennametal is assumed. Metric Coarse Machine Tap Powder Metal Subtrate Specially designed for Titanium & Titanium Alloys VAP finish ideal for unalloyed titanium Left Hand 15. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks. They used an oversized drill (.5394') and moly-dee and it became very hot. These calculations are based upon theoretical values and are only intended for planning purposes. We have parts made from TiGALV4 and they are trying to roll tap them 9/16'-18 UNJ 3B and the titanium keeps sticking to the tap after the first hole and then the no go starts to go and the threads get rough. We did just finish a job in 12L14 on the lathe using a 9/16"-18 form tap, don't recall the brand off hand, but after about 500 parts, it lost the first couple of threads on the front of the tap.kind of sucks when the bar feeder is full up and it keeps kicking out parts, that are bad! Someone here years ago said to never set the automatic cycle count higher than what you are willing to throw in the scrap bin.wise words, I wish I could recall who to give credit to though. Engineering Calculators / Holemaking Calculators / Tapping Torque and Horsepower Calculate Machining Power and Torque for Cutting Tap Applications. We pretty much run coolant with aluminum and CR or 12L14, but if form tapping T304 or T316, we use Moly-Dee.
